Air India Frankfurt-Delhi Flight Diverted to Jaipur After Hijack Alert
An Air India Frankfurt-Delhi flight was diverted to Jaipur after a reported hijack alert and the transmission of squawk code 7500. All passengers and crew were safe, and the aircraft resumed its journey after security checks.
Flight AI 2030, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, landed safely in Jaipur, Rajasthan, at 9.45 am. The city is approximately 280 km from the flight’s intended destination, Delhi. Following the landing, authorities approached the aircraft cautiously before bringing in ladders to allow passengers to disembark.
Sources at Ahmedabad air traffic control said they had received squawk code 7500 from AI 2030. The code is generally used to indicate a hijacking and serves as the international transponder code for unlawful interference during flight operations.
Airport authorities followed the highest level of response, similar to the protocol typically activated during incidents such as aircraft hijackings. Officials confirmed that everyone on board was safe. Passengers and crew members were permitted to leave the aircraft after it underwent a thorough security check.
Air India had earlier said that passengers would be offered complimentary rescheduling options or a full refund in the event of a cancellation.
Hours later, the airline confirmed the incident in an official statement, saying the flight had been diverted “following a perceived security concern.” According to Air India, passengers underwent security checks and were subsequently allowed to board the aircraft again to continue their journey to Delhi.
“Air India teams worked proactively with authorities to minimise passenger inconvenience. We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused to our passengers due to this unforeseen disruption and appreciate their patience and understanding,” the airline said.
The flight resumed its journey to Delhi after the security procedures were completed, with the incident prompting a high-level response from airport authorities following the reported hijack alert.
